  • What meat temperatures are included on the magnet?

This Meat Smoking Guide includes everything you need to smoke your favorite meats, including pork butt (shoulder), pork tenderloin, pork ribs, beef brisket, chicken, turkey, and fish. You will get easy access to the right cooking temperatures, proper internal temps, and cooking suggestions for each meat. The magnet also describes the most popular woods to help you choose the right one for each meat.

Why are there multiple sets of temperatures for each meat?

This guide includes a few different target temperatures. First, we suggest a range of cooking temperatures for your smoker. Next, we include the target internal temperature for each meat. These temps differ from the recommended temperatures needed to prevent sickness (the USDA Minimum Temperatures). The internal temperature is specifically related to smoking meat. For example, pork is safe to eat at 145 degrees F, but we suggest smoking pork shoulder to 195 to 205 degrees F. That makes it as tender and shreddable as possible!

How do I get a copy of my recipe book?

After you buy the Meat Smoking Guide, we will send you a downloadable copy of the recipe book. If you don’t receive the email, please feel free to email us to orders@cavetools.com. We’ll get a copy sent to you as soon as possible!

Can you place the magnet on the hottest side of the smoker?

We recommend placing the magnet on the body of the grill, the side table, or the doors on the front of the grill. Placing the magnet on the side of the grill or the lid (both of which can get quite hot) can cause the magnetic back to melt.

How do I know whether to choose the minimum or maximum smoking temperature?

The lower number is the low-and-slow temperature. The higher number is the maximum temperature you could choose to still get a smoky, tender piece of meat. If you are running short on time, choose the higher temp. Otherwise, the lower temperature (and longer cooking time) will result in better tasting meat.
